Rare Pair of Antique Blanchflower & Sons Ceramic Black & White Pots

£95.00

These rare Victorian, glazed, pots are a lovely example of ironstone fish paste pots from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. The 19th century demand in the fishing trade created a market to store different kinds of fish in these decorative pots. The striking black and white ‘pictorial’ Blanchflower & Sons design was a perfect marketing tool and such lids and pots became popular to collectors. These have a fantastic typography and have survived with their original unusual hexagonal-shaped screw-on lids.

In 1877 The London Gazette featured Timothy & John Coleman Blanchflower’s business for the invention and improvement of their packaging. The firm later acquired the title ‘By Appointment to Her Majesty’ (Queen Victoria).

With wonderful aged crazing, these gorgeous collectible jars would make a great addition to any kitchen or shelf and make a lovely gift.
